About
Hi, I'm Theodore.
I'm Theodore Rose, founder and CEO (Chief Engineering Officer) of The Monarch Rose, a New York City software engineer building custom software for businesses. I've spent 14 years across companies including Google, Bloomberg, Compass and CA Technologies, on systems where downtime and data loss were not options.
That was enterprise-grade engineering as an individual contributor, on the kind of systems that have to be secure, reliable and maintainable because real businesses depend on them every day.
I started The Monarch Rose to bring that same level of engineering to businesses of every size. Small and growing companies deserve software built with the same care as the enterprise, without enterprise overhead, and designed around how they actually work.
Today I design and build websites, web and mobile apps, booking systems, portals, CRMs, payment systems, automations, AI tools and complete multi-tenant SaaS platforms. When a project calls for it, I install the technology on-site too. For founders without a technical co-founder, I take that role part-time as a fractional CTO. Based in New York City, working with clients nationwide.
I also write about technology and building software on Substack.

How I work
Principles behind every project
Enterprise engineering, right-sized
The practices that keep large systems reliable, including testing, security, monitoring and documentation, applied at the scale your business actually needs.
One accountable person
You work directly with the engineer designing and building your software. No account managers, no hand-offs, no telephone game.
Built around your business
Software should fit how you already work. Every project starts by understanding your process, not by forcing you into a template.
End-to-end ownership
From installing technology at your location to the software that runs on it, the whole solution is designed to work together.
